Team-Based Learning is being explored in a growing number of K-12 settings as educators seek more interactive and student-centered approaches. However, it’s not always straightforward to adapt an active learning pedagogy to young learners.

Join us for a one-hour panel discussion with K-12 educators who have first-hand experience integrating TBL into their teaching. They'll share why TBL is a valuable approach in K-12 education, what challenges they've faced in their own classrooms, and the strategies they use to keep students engaged and collaborative.

During the panel chat, we will broadly cover the following:

What is TBL and what makes it a valuable approach for younger learners?
What are some of the common challenges of implementing TBL for younger learners?
What are the benefits of adopting TBL in K-12 classrooms?
How can educators get started with TBL in their schools?

Whether you're TBL-curious or already experimenting with it in your school, this discussion is for educators looking to enhance their teaching and foster student engagement in K-12 education through Team-Based Learning.

While the focus is on K–12, the session is equally relevant to anyone exploring TBL in other contexts—including community colleges, first-generation student programs, or early postsecondary education.

About the panelists

LaTonya Amboree

LaTonya Amboree is an Assistant Director at an education service center in Texas, bringing 23 years of experience in education. She has served as a classroom teacher, district Social Studies specialist, and regional education specialist supporting teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators. LaTonya holds degrees from Rice University and Lamar University and is passionate about professional learning and the social sciences.

She has delivered over 100 professional development sessions and currently serves on the board of the Texas Social Studies Leaders Association and the TBL® K–12 Steering Committee. She is a certified TBL® Consultant-Trainer and she runs her own professional development company, Eduthenticity.

Carol Schoenecker

Carol Schoenecker is a teacher educator, rowing coach, and community builder dedicated to integrating Team-Based Learning into both traditional and alternative learning environments. As an affiliate faculty member in Duquesne University’s School of Education, she works closely with pre-service teachers to explore how engaged pedagogy, social-emotional learning, and community-based experiences intersect. Carol seeks to bring TBL to life in ways that affirm identity, spark inquiry, and invite authentic participation.

Outside the traditional classroom, Carol coaches rowing at Rochester Institute of Technology and collaborates with youth and adaptive rowing programs to build trauma-informed, inclusive spaces where athletes and learners can thrive. Whether in a boat or a classroom, her pedagogy is grounded in love, rigor, reflection, and shared leadership.
