Team-based Learning (TBL) is a popular choice of pedagogy in undergraduate programs. Still, many educators find it challenging to get started with TBL or get buy-in for their TBL courses. Join us for a one-hour roundtable discussion with our speakers to learn about their successes, failures, and experiences in implementing TBL programs at their institutions.
During the panel chat, we will broadly cover the following:- Why was TBL a chosen pedagogy for our panelist's particular curriculums?
- What obstacles did they have to overcome while trying to switch to TBL?
- What difference has TBL pedagogy had on the student's learning outcomes?

About the panelists
Dr. Sarah Arrington
Dr. Sarah Arrington is passionate about helping students reach their academic potentials and setting the foundation for life-long learning. She obtained her PhD in Physiology from SUNY Upstate Medical University and has focused her career on improving student learning, with a specific focus on first-year STEM students. She has served as the Department Chair of Biology at Stark State College, prior to moving to Appalachian State University, where she served as the General Biology Director for three years. In her current role at Appalachian State, she serves as an Instructional Technology Consultant and eLearning Specialist and also leads the Team-Based Learning Faculty Learning Community. She was recently invited to be a member of the Biology Leadership Community which is dedicated to improving student learning through evidenced-based practices and research. Her current research interests are focused on team-based learning, alternative grading methods, and near-peer learning assistants to help improve motivation, sense of belonging, and deep learning.

Craig Davis
Craig teaches undergraduate marketing courses at Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School of Journalism both in-person as well as large online courses. He utilizes TBL in both modalities to create a more engaging experience for his students. Craig also has extensive experience working on technology and is a member of the university's technology committee.

We formally focused on the mechanics of running TBL rather than just trying to "put together a case". It just feels more structured and focused now than it did before the workshop.
